Behind the scenes at Heatherwick Studio
November 19th, 2009 | by awinston |Thomas Heatherwick is an unpredictable man. One minute he’s creating a multi-million pound design for the Shanghai Expo and the next he’s recreating his double rolling bridge concept on a float for the City Bridge Trust’s offering at the annual Lord Mayor’s Show in London…
News Junkie went behind the scenes to take some pictures for you during the construction of the float, which finally paraded down the wind and rain lashed streets of London last Saturday.
Apparently the Heatherwick staffer in charge of the project hardly saw his pregnant girlfriend for a month during the construction process. That’s dedication for you.

And here is the completed float in action…

All that work, all that modelling, all that effort by someone having to ‘wind it up’ manually – thats the bit I like the best..
Lovely idea…

MMMmmm Kinda ok rehashed idea(as in the same as one he did 5 years ago in Paddington?), but doesn’t stop it being an ugly bridge rolled or unrolled!.. Here’s hoping Borris didn’t see it.. he has a liking for silly ideas.
