Things are luke-warming up for Atlantic Yards

Having very publicly dropped Frank Gehry’s super expensive but rather popular scheme for the controversial New York Atlantic Yards project, developer Bruce Ratner has taken a bit of a kicking for the new designs.

The latest element of the scheme, a $770 million basketball arena designed by SHoP, was unveiled last week to a less than enthusiastic response…

A new island development for Abu Dhabi and more rumours about Gehry’s Atlantic Yards

Just when you thought that work in the Middle East was drying up, along comes Abu Dhabi with plans for a while new island district. The question is, will it be an island of starchitects a la Saadiyat Cultural Island, or something a little more accessible?

In New York there’s more troubling rumours around Gehry’s Atlantic Yards, and there’s a respectable shortlist to create Melbourne University’s new architecture faculty building.

Knocking down Mies and Russia’s Olympics

Apparently, Russia is ahead of schedule for delivering the 2014 Winter Olympics site. Fingers crossed it’s more Bird Nest than Broadcast Centre.

And one Chicaho tribune blogger argues that it’s ok to known down a Mies building because it’s not so pretty – blasphemy or a fair point?
