What is it about super yachts and architects? First there was Norman Foster for YatchPlus, a big, matt grey hulk of a boat that looked like it might belong in Michael Bay’s Transformers films. And now this…
So, yesterday News Junkie was wondering what to give Norman Foster for his birthday and got some entertaining responses (some not suitable for publishing). But now the city of Moscow has trumped us all by coughing up the funds for Foster’s stalled Zaryadye project.
It’s a sad day in LA as the Museum of Contemporary Culture sheds in architecture curator. And the Italians stage one of the most visually arresting protests News Junkie has seen thus far, placing a toilet and lots of toilet paper outside Richard Meier’s Ara Pacis museum.
News Junkie has heard that today is Norman Foster’s birthday and he’s looking rather good for 74.
We’re sure that all his staff are sending him best wishes. But he must be a profoundly difficult man to buy presents for.
Foster is, after all, the man who has everything including his own yacht and airplane (OK he might not own them but we imagine he probably gets mates rates).
He’s got plenty of shiny medals to wear and probably already owns a swishy watch, so jewellery is out. And this is the man who designed the world’s biggest inedible Gherkin, so it’s fairly safe to say that he doesn’t want any kind of edible present.
What would you give Norman Foster and why? Best answer wins a yet-to-be confirmed prize.
Do you? Well you should, especially because he’s just beaten Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster and Thom Mayne to top Fast Company’s 100 most Creative People in Business list.
